Greetings to old friends, valued customers and those new to the world of daylilies.
Mother Nature seems to be miffed this year as 2009 has started out with a bang here. The January ice storm hit big time and thankfully we were only 2 weeks without electricity, February brought us snowstorms (we seldom have snow) one with 13 inches of the white stuff. March only brought high winds and rain but this is the first
Week of April and a freeze is being forcast. The downed trees and limbs have finally been cleared away from the flower beds and yard. We lost several large trees as the weight of 5in thick ice pulled them to the ground. I have four red buds that have one branch per tree left but I’m happy to say the two 80 year old pecans survived and there was only minor damage to the house.
Tulips hyacinth and daffodils are giving way to the early wildflowers and iris peeking from under their blanket of leaves.
The wildlife is also making its appearance with the arrival of spring. Ladybugs and bees are everywhere and the tree frogs
Are waking up in the greenhouse . Fred, Bubbles and Hot Lips survived the cold temps even without the pond heater.
Fred is now almost two foot long plus another 14 inches of tail. This is his 7th year and he makes quite a show in the pond with his bright Red coloring and white fins. The girls are white with red markings and not as large as he is.
Melvin (garter snake) also survived the winter. He was sunning on the rock pile yesterday watching me just incase he
Needed to make a quick retreat. Poor Melvin was almost a goner last year. Lucky for him I saw the king snake just as he
Grabbed him. Melvin was being squeezed to death and was about to become lunch when I got hold of the two. Picking the
King snake up by the tail disrupted him enough that he turned Melvin loose but was throughly annoyed with me for
Spoiling his meal. Melvin though dazed quickly recovered and high tailed it in the opposite direction .
I have listed several new Specials this year. Some are things that grow slowly, quickly or could use a slightly warmer zone .
Our winter cold damages many of the evergreens here to the point they look terrible in early spring. For daylily people
This isn’t bad as we often put up with ugly foliage for a pretty flower. However in a flower border it is a distraction
I dislike. Besides there are hundreds of great ones to take it’s place and although it may not do well here other places I’m
Sure it does.

Hours drive from Memphis Tn. I am generally open during the peak season but please call or email a day or two in advance to make sure someone will be here so you are not disappointed.
RUST
I had three new plants arrive in 08 that developed rust late in the fall. The winter was cold enough any rust spores
Should have been killed but one can never be certain.
I still cannot guarantee a rust free plant so please remember this when ordering.
Guarantee : all plants will be freshly dug, shipped bare root and state inspected. Unless stated cultivars
will be 2 fans or more. No substitutions will be made without permission I begin shipping around 15th of April thru May 25.
Fall shipping begins September 9 thru October 5 BONUS: plants will be given with each order 20% PLUS (excluding shipping)
For orders that are mainly specials it will be 10% Plus (excluding shipping)
Plants will be smaller than the ones coming from states with warmer zones but will have good
root systems and catch up as your season progresses.
Garden visits
It is always a pleasure to have visitors during bloom season which is between June 10-
June 25. Please call or email in advance of your visit so I will be expecting you.
